Eze Ndigbo Lagos, Eze Nwabueze Ohazulike OON, says all is set for the celebration of the Annual New Yam Festival in Lagos and urged all Igbos in Lagos to turn out en masse for the cultural event. The traditional ruler disclosed this on Monday at an exclusive interview with Peplnews at his palace in Ifako Ijaye Lagos.
Eze Ohazulike stated that hosting the festival in Lagos is significant as it affords Ndigbo in Lagos the opportunity to still witness and be part of this important cultural ceremony even if they could not travel home.
“Most Igbos whose children were born here and who hardly travel home during such festivals can learn this part of our culture through this ceremony” he said. “We invite students from secondary schools to come and witness the festival to enable them appreciate and preserve our culture” The Eze ndigbo revealed that the New Yam festival 2016 will feature all the trappings of the cultural event and more. Many cultural troupes, dancers and masquerades will be on hand to provide entertainment at the event which will hold at Obi Ndigbo Lagos, 102 Igwe Ohazulike Road New Oko-Oba in Ifako Ijaye Local Government Area of the state. As part of his philantropic gesture to the less privileged, the traditional ruler said he will be empowering some women through the donation of poverty alleviation items such as sewing machine and grinding machine at the event.
