A mum who gave birth to a record-breaking baby last Tuesday at Arnot Odgen Medical Center in Elmira, New York has described her experience as being ‘hit by two trucks’.
Joi Buckley, who couldn’t walk for days after the “violent” birth, was left gobsmacked when daughter Harper arrived last Tuesday weighing 15lb 5oz.
The tot – who is already the same as a six month old and has a full head of hair – is the largest baby Arnot Odgen Medical Center in Elmira, New York has ever delivered.
“I knew she was going to be big, but I didn’t anticipate no 15-pound baby,” Joi said.
“I felt like I was hit by two tractor-trailers.”
It took three doctors, a medical ‘vacuum’ and a C-section to deliver 23.2-inch Harper, reports the New York Post .
“It was pretty violent. She got stuck under my ribcage,” Joi added.
Harper was placed into neonatal intensive care shortly afterwards and is expected to be released from hospital too.
Mum Joi is also recovering at home.
She added: “I’m up moving around, and I can walk now.”
Harper’s birth came as a welcome surprise for Joi and husband Norman.
Years earlier they had been told their chances of naturally conceiving were very slim and they adopted a young girl. They also have a son who was born weighing 11lbs.
Both she and Norman’s families have a history of huge babies up to 16 pounds.
Joi added of her big bundle of joy: “We are so in awe of her. We’ve been able to hold her. She’s got a pretty happy demeanor.”
