The Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy on Thursday held a special reception to honour Professor Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, FNAPharm Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola Vice Chancellor, Chrisland University for their Academic excellence.
The ceremony which took place at Sheraton Hotel Lagos had the President, Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy Pharm. Prince Adelusi-Adeluyi, Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi vice president, the two honorees Prof Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, DG NAFDAC, Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola VC Chrisland University, Senator Olusola Adeyeye, Venerable Olufemi Babalola, members of the pharmacy, friends and families of the two awardees among others in attendance.
The two honorees who were inducted into the prestigious ranks of the fellowship of the Nigeria Academy of pharmacy joined set of Nigerians to bag this elite award.
In his address, the President of the Academy, Prince Adelusi-Adeluyi said, ”the Academy which was inaugurated in June 2014 seeks to bring together successful senior pharmacists who have distinguished themselves in the corporate sector in Nigeria, public service and other specialized areas. It will also interest you to know that we had our first honorees in the person of General Yakubu Gowon who has been very active in various programs.”
”Our first honoree of the Lifetime Achievement Award was the Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, the second person of the Lifetime Award professor Julius Okojie, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission. it is not something we give like that, we take some time to look out for those who merit and deserve such honours.”
Speaking on the recognition, Prince Adeluyi stated that ”Professor Peace Babalola become a fellow in October 2015. A very good and experienced teacher, and now a University administrator.
Professor Mojisola Adeyeye became a fellow of this Academy last September, she was very celebrated here, and little did we know that in one to two months, she would become the DG of NAFDAC.
Professor, Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye is the DG NAFDAC, a 2,300 member organization where she is setting up innovative paradigms in ways of doing regulatory agency business with an emphasis on protecting the health of the nation through ensuring registration of quality drugs, food and water. She received her BPHARM from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and MS and PhD from the University of Georgia, Athens GA, USA. Professor Adeyeye is a fellow of Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy, Nigeria Academy of Science and Academic Research fellow of American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola is a pharmacist and professor of pharmaceutical Chemistry/Pharmacokinetics, University of Ibadan. She was appointed the Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta in November 2017. Babalola obtained B, Pharm, MSc. PhD degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife between 1983 and 1977.
Speaking with PEPLNEWS, the registrar of Chrisland University said, ”We are here to celebrate our Vice-Chancellor who is honoured by the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy on her appointment as Vice Chancellor and so many other achievements recorded within a very short period of time.
In her reaction, one of the awardees Professor Mojisola Adeyeye said, ”I am happy, that I am a pharmacist and secondly for the recognition that my colleagues are giving me and for the fact that am the DG of NAFDAC, part of my responsibility is to make NAFDAC great”
“So many of the drugs that are being imported into the country are sub-standard, we have our port inspectors as directorate working 24/7 round the clock to ensure such medicines do not get into the country. We will also ensure that consumers are protected from unwholesome foods, drug and water”, she said.
